Join us as we visit the Island of the Dolls, or La Isla de las Muñecas. This is a ghoulish experience with threads of the supernatural and folklore woven in. Located in the canals of Xochimilco in Mexico City, this haunted island is covered in thousands of dolls, each with a history full of tragedy and intrigue. The story starts off with the mysterious character of Don Julian Santana Barrera, who fled to the island in the 1950s due to an incomprehensible obsession that made him leave his family. On arriving on the island, he chanced upon the dead body of a young girl, allegedly drowned in the dark waters off the island. This finding led him to his ruin to madness as he started to accumulate dolls, thinking that they would placate the ghost of the dead child. The rest is a ghoulish tale of his existence with the dolls, which he thought could communicate with him, so he continued to collect and hang the dolls on trees, one after another in dedication to the ghost which he thought haunted the island. The show is very effective in recreating the eerie ambiance of the island, as guests report hearing voices, seeing movements of the dolls, and experiencing a suffocating presence, all of which have contributed to the island’s fame as a place of paranormal activity.
